Tangguh Project Launch To Boost Winter Global LNG Growth by 12%

LNG

The start of exports from Indonesia’s Tangguh train 3 LNG project will mean global winter supply of LNG could increased by 12% compared to 2022, according to BNEF.

  • Tangguh train 3 is expected to produce around 20 cargoes this winter, provided it can reach full capacity by January. It will add 3.8m mtpa of LNG production to the project.
  • Tangguh’s combined total production is expected at 11m mtpa in 2024, around 2.6% of global LNG supply, BNEF said.
  • However, most of its supply is expected to be utilised domestically to meet Indonesia’s rising demand, rather than exported on the global LNG market.
  • Around 75% of Tangguh’s volumes from the expansion project are sold to Indonesia’s state-owned power generation company, PLN. The rest are sold to Japan’s Kansai Electric.
