Taoiseach: UK Actions 'Not An Acceptable Way To Conduct Negotiations'

Irish Prime Minister (Taoiseach) Micheal Martin has said that the UK's proposed Internal Market Bill, which threatens to unilaterally amend the Northern Ireland protocol in the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement, is 'not an acceptable way to conduct negotiations'.

  • Martin has stated that he will speak to UK PM Johnson later today to discuss the issue.
  • Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney stated 'I would caution anyone who is thinking about playing politics with Northern Ireland on Brexit again, Northern Ireland is too fragile and too important to be used as a pawn in the broader Brexit negotiations', adding that the Irish or EU side had received 'no heads up' about the UK gov't plans.
