EU COMMISSION: The European Commission has released a statement regarding Airbus
and the 'Airbus member states' (France, Spain, Germany) stating that the
countries and firm have agreed to modify the terms of the Repayable Launch
Investment (subsidy scheme) in order to comply with a WTO ruling.
- Full statement: https://trade.ec.europa.eu/doclib/press/index.cfm?id=2171
- The change to the subsidy scheme has led the EU to demand the US lift its
sanctions on Airbus. Trade Commissioner Phil Hogan said "Unjustified tariffs on
European products are not acceptable and, arising from the compliance in the
Airbus case, we insist that the United States lifts these unjustified tariffs
immediately."
- Hogan went on to say "In the absence of a settlement, the EU will be ready to
fully avail itself of its own sanction rights.", threatening a new raft of
sanctions against the US.
