US DATA: The Kansas City Fed Manufacturing Activity index fell to -30.0 in
April, beating expectations of -37.0, but still the lowest reading in history
(since 1994) and a decline from -17 in March. Durable goods producers saw the
brunt of the decline, according to the KC Fed.
- Per a special question in the survey, the KC Fed found that there has been a
large takeup of the SBA's paycheck protection program, with 67% of respondents
reporting that they have applied for it.
- Though prices declined on the month, District firms expected prices to rise
slightly in the next six months.
- The April survey was open for a five-day period from April 15-20, 2020 and
included 103 responses from plants in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma,
Wyoming, northern New Mexico, and western Missouri.
