STOCKS: The majority of Asian equity indices are higher overnight following the
FOMC meeting yesterday when the majority of the dots confirmed that the Fed were
expecting to keep rates on hold through 2020.
- There are several notable exceptions, however. Japanese equities opened higher
but have drifted lower through the day and now are largely flat on the day.
Chinese equities also drifted lower through the day, led by industrial stocks,
with the Shanghai composite down 0.3%.
- Australian stocks closed 0.65% lower, led by the Big Four banks as the fallout
from the Westpac alleged money laundering headlines continued.
- S&P E-mini futures are a little higher on the day.
- The focus today will turn initially to the ECB meeting with Lagarde's first
press conference before attention turns back to the UK General Election. Exit
polls will be published at 22:00GMT as voting ends with results expected through
the night. Any potential US-China tariff headlines will also be a big driver.
