Treasury Bi-Monthly Income And Expenses Report Due

BRAZIL
  • The Treasury is due to publish its bi-monthly income and expenses evaluation report at 1300GMT(0900ET), followed by a press conference with Federal Budget Secretary Paulo Bijos and Treasury’s Deputy Secretary Viviane Varga at 1330GMT. Yesterday, Poder360 reported that the government is set to freeze as much as 3bn reais in spending from the ministries’ budget today. Expectations had been for a larger temporary cut, which had been previously reported at around 5bn reais. However, a review of public pension spending apparently reduced the need to contain expenditures to meet the rules of the new fiscal framework.
  • On the data front, FGV consumer confidence rose to 91.3 in March, from 89.7. Later, the Bloomberg March economic survey will be published at 1500GMT. Next week, attention will turn to the Copom minutes, released on Tuesday.
  • In other news, Poder360 report that the government is considering importing shale gas from Argentina as it seeks to increase the supply of natural gas in the country. An alternative under consideration would use the Bolivia-Brazil gas pipeline, which is currently underutilised.
