Trudeau: No Election Expected Before Fall 2025

CANADA

Wires carrying comments from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stating, "we expect to be able to govern for a couple more years, no election is expected before fall 2025."

  • Trudeau's comments come following today's cabinet reshuffle which saw him maintain a number of key ministers in place but Defence Minister Anita Anand moved to the head of the Treasury Board.
  • AP reports: "Trudeau removed seven ministers and changed two-thirds of the portfolios. Defense, justice, public safety, health, heritage, fisheries and procurement are among the departments with new ministers. Only seven ministers are keeping their portfolio."
  • More information on today's reshuffle: here and here.
  • A general election must take place before October 2025.
