Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump are back on the campaign trail today after Tuesday's presidential debate.
- Harris will appear at two campaign events in North Carolina, a state Democrats are targeting aggressively as a potential flip: Charlotte at 15:40 ET 20:40 BST and Greensboro at 18:50 ET 23:50 BST. Harris' remarks are expected to focus on the economy, abortion rights, and Project 2025.
- Trump will target the Latino vote in remarks on the economy and housing in Tucson, Arizona at 16:00 ET 21:00 BST.
- The dust has begun to settle on the first presidential debate. While it is clear Harris won the debate, it is less clear if the debate win will significantly move the needle towards Harris.
- NYT polling over the weekend showed that, while views on Trump are largely baked into the electorate, voters are less clear on the policies Harris is likely to pursue to remedy voters' economic concerns.
- Considering that the debate was light on policy specifics, it is unlikely that undecided voters are now significantly better informed on Harris’ agenda, perhaps limiting the impact of her debate win.
- Over the next few days, there will be a string of polls from high-churn outfits like YouGov and Morning Consult, who tend to be cautious with their methodology, and low-quality online polls that should be treated with scepticism.
- We should get the first accurate indication of the debate impact by Sunday, at the earliest, when high-quality pollsters have completed their requisite fieldwork.
