Former President Donald Trump continues to maintain a strong lead over his Republican presidential rivals in political endorsements.
- According the FiveThirtyEight endorsement tracker, which attributes points based upon the political clout of the endorsement, Trump currently has a weighted score of 263 points.
- Trump has recived key endoresments from West Virgina Governor Jim Justice (R-WV) and South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster (R-SC).
- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL), widely considered Trump's most credible challenger, has 39 points with only one key endorsement from Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt (R-OK).
- 538 notes: "Historically, endorsements have proven pretty predictive of who wins presidential nominating contests. Since the modern primary era began in 1972, there have been 17 Democratic or Republican primary fights that did not feature an incumbent president. The candidate with the most endorsement points on the day before the Iowa caucuses won 11."
