Turkey Asks Russia to Build Another Nuclear Plant

  • Citing people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg report that Turkey has asked Russia to build its second nuclear power plant, in the latest sign of closer ties with the Kremlin. President Erdogan made the request in talks last week in Kazakhstan with Russian counterpart Putin. Russian state nuclear giant Rosatom said Wednesday that talks are underway on a possible deal to build a new, four-reactor plant on the Black Sea coast with CEO Alexey Likhachev saying the project is an “attractive opportunity.”
  • US representatives visited Ankara this week to warn Turkish businesses of potential sanctions if Turkey continues to be used as a ‘transit hub’ for Russia, Dunya report. The US delegation stated that non-tariff barriers to Turkish trucks has started in logistics in order to slow down the flow of goods to Russia.
  • President Erdogan will speak in a number of events today at 1200BST/1400 local, 1400BST/1600 local and 1700BST/1900 local. Vice President Fuat Oktay will present budget proposals to parliament at 1300BST/1500 local. Consumer confidence data crossed this morning, showing an increase from 72.4 prior to 76.2.
