Turkish President, KRG Prime Minister Meeting Unlikely To Result In Oil Flows

A meeting on Tuesday between the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Masrour Barzani, the prime minister of the semi-autonomous Kurdish government in Iraq is unlikely to result in a restart of flows this week according to people familiar with the matter.

  • Talks over legal and technical aspects will continue with both Iraqi and Kurdish officials, sources said.
  • Iraq was forces to halt around 470kbpd of crude oil exports from the northern region on 25 March through the export pipeline to the Turkish port of Ceyhan.
  • On 19 June the Turkish energy delegation has met with Iraqi oil officials in Baghdad to discuss the resumption of flows. However, the meeting has not resulted in a final decision and further meetings are expected to take place between the two parties.
