Two Thirds of Qatar’s Expanded LNG Capacity Unassigned: Bloomberg

LNG

Qatar is still looking to sign long term contracts to cover up to two thirds of its new capacity due online in the coming years, according to Bloomberg.

  • Qatar’s production capacity will increase by 64% to 126m mtpa by 2027 and has so far covered around one third of this through long term contracts.
  • Qatar has deals worth around 15.3m mtpa signed with: China, Germany, Bangladesh and France. Qatar recently signed a 27-year deal with France’s Total.
  • Buyers, particularly in Europe, are being deterred by the lack of delivery flexibility and contract length required by Qatar.
  • Qatar is also having to remarket volumes from expiring contracts due to expire around 2028. This covers around 13m mtpa of LNG contracts, mainly signed with trading houses exporting to Europe.
