Free AccessTwo-Way USDCAD Trade Ahead Of Current Account Data
- USDCAD has seen decent two-way trade so far today, as the pair sees conflicting drivers with the S&P E-mini near session highs and close to yesterday’s high at the open but WTI down 1% albeit having bounced off lows.
- Currently 1.358 (-0.1%), the pullback since early Friday's high of 1.3655 is deemed corrective with key short-term resistance still eyed at 1.3668 (Apr 28 high). With that in mind, support is seen at 1.3532 (20-day EMA) but earlier bounces off session lows of 1.3567/3568 suggest possibly some light support there as well.
- Largest option expiry for today’s cut is grouped near current levels but it’s light, with $260m at 1.3610 and $235m at 1.3550.
- Current account for Q1 at 0830ET. Consensus sees -C$9.5B after -C$10.6B in Q4, in what would still leave the deficit at circa 1.5% GDP in trend terms, the largest since the pandemic but still below the 2-3% GDP averaged pre-pandemic.
