UK Foreign Sec To Meet w/Polish, Ukrainian Counterparts In Warsaw

UKRAINE

UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is set to meet with her Polish and Ukrainian counterparts, Zbigniew Rau and Dmytro Kuleba respectively, in Warsaw later today as Western-aligned nations mull imposing stricter sanctions on Russia and delivering greater military support to Ukraine.

  • Comes after weekend revelations of potential war crimes committed by Russian troops in Bucha and Irpin on the outskirts of Kyiv.
  • Earlier, Truss released a statement saying that "At this time, more than ever, it is essential that the international community continues to provide Ukraine with the humanitarian and military support it so dearly needs, and that we step up sanctions to cut off funding for Putin’s war machine at source."
  • Major focus sits on EU states that import significant amounts of Russian gas, notably Germany. The reports from Bucha are likely to increase pressure on Chancellor Olaf Scholz to substantially or even fully cut off Russian gas from the German network. However, given the economic impact on Germany, this remains a unlikely outcome in the short-term.
