UK Oil Tanker Strike to Threaten Fuel Supplies

50 Oil tanker drivers in Stanlow in northwest England will strike from June 6-8, putting some regional supplies at risk during the ongoing election campaign, according to Bloomberg, citing the Unite union.

  • “The industrial action will cause significant disruptions to fuel supplies across the Northwest and Scottish borders,” Unite said in the statement, cited by Bloomberg.
  • Bloomberg noted that a shortage of drivers in 2021 led to impacted deliveries, fuelling panic buying and subsequently shortages at some petrol stations in the UK.
  • Nonetheless, the upcoming strikes are limited to a smaller region of the UK which should prevent any wider impact.
