UK Top Treasury Official Ramsden Appointed BOE Deputy Governor

-Joanna Place Appointed As BOE Chief Operating Officer
By David Robinson
LONDON (MNI) - The vacancy left by the departure of former Bank of England
Deputy Governor for Markets and Banking and Chief Operating Officer Charlotte
Hogg will be filled by two people, with Joanna Place becoming COO and Dave
Ramsden taking up the deputy governorship.
Ramsden is a well-known figure in UK economic policy-making circles, who
currently serves as Director General and Chief Economic Adviser at the Treasury.
He will become a member of the Monetary Policy Committee, the Financial Policy
Committee, the Prudential Regulation Committee and the Court of the Bank of
England.
Ramsden will be in place for the September 13 MPC meeting, as he takes up
his post on September 4. He has been a key link between the Treasury and the
Bank, often attending MPC meetings and playing a role in the development of
joint BOE/Treasury initiatives, such as quantitative easing and Funding for
Lending.
His appointment highlights the closeness between top Treasury officials and
Bank. Place has been acting as COO since May 1 and is a long serving BOE
employee.
