Ukraine Aims to Boost Power Imports to Above 2GW
POWER
Ukraine’s government is in talks with its European neighbouring countries to increase power imports to more than 2GW amid power supply bottlenecks following Russia’s attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said, cited by Bloomberg.
- “Currently, we can import no more than 1.7 GW. Kyiv has all technical capabilities for more imports,” Shmyhal said.
- The Ukrainian Cabinet adopted a resolution to no longer impose power cuts for businesses that import 80% of their electricity needs, he added.
- Ukraine has also lost around 80% of its thermal power production, which means the country is relying on its three nuclear facilities that generate around 60% of its electricity.
