US/SK Continue Air Drills As North Warns Of "Nuke For Nuke"

NORTH KOREA

The United States and South Korean air forces engaged in joint training exercises for the second time this week involving new stealth aircraft as Pyongyang continues to warn of potential consequences. While North Korea's responses to US/SK drills are often viewed as aggressive but largely inconsequential rhetoric, the large number of ballistic missile launches and concerns about the first nuclear test in years means that communications from Pyongyang will gain increased attention.

  • Following a sixth visit to the region by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III, the North warned that, “the more dangerous the US threat to the DPRK gets, the stronger backfire the US will face in direct proportion to it [The DPRK will take] the toughest reaction to any military attempt of the US on the principle of ‘nuke for nuke and an all-out confrontation for an all-out confrontation,"
