US State Dept: US Officials To Attend Ukraine Peace In Saudi Arabia

US State Department Spokesperson, Matthew Miller, has told reporters that US officials will attend the upcoming Ukraine peace summit scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia, August 5-6.

  • Miller: "I can confirm there will be US government officials but I am not yet ready to make announcements yet on who those will be."
  • Miller: "We do of course support this summit. We have long said that it is important that Ukraine be in the driver's seat when it comes to any potential diplomatic resolution to this war. It is important that countries that yet heard directly for Ukraine, hear from Ukraine so we are gratified that there will be countries attending countries this summit to talk directly from Ukraine."
  • Miller said he doesn't have information to add on which other countries may be attending the summit.
  • Three former Saudi diplomats told the New York Times that "several countries, including the United States and European nations, along with Brazil, China and India, had been invited, though it was not immediately clear who would attend."
