US To Further Restrict Russian Access To Critical Military Equipment

US-RUSSIA

Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo has convened a "Meeting of Countries Imposing Economic Restrictions on Russia" at the United States Treasury Department.

  • The meeting seeks to further strangle Russian access to high-tech military components, crucial to the war in Ukraine.
  • Adeyemo : "Together, our collective actions have rendered the Russian military-industrial complex unable to produce and maintain critical equipment for operations in Ukraine."
  • According to a Treasury Department statement, controls imposed by the US-led coalition have denied Russia "access[ing] advanced technology and our financial systems hobbling the Russian defense industry’s ability to produce weapons..."
  • Continued: "Russia is running out of microelectronics that are critical to their military-industrial complex..."
  • Continued: "Two of Russia’s largest domestic microelectronics manufacturers have had to temporarily halt production due to a lack of critical, foreign technologies."
  • Adeyemo said at that the US is "willing and able to sanction people, companies, or countries that provide ammunition to Russia or support Russia’s military-industrial complex."
    • This is likely directed at Iran, whose sale of Shahed drones has contributed to effective Russian attacks on Ukrainian military and civilian infrastructure.
