DOLLAR-CANADA
DOLLAR-CANADA: USD/CAD has edged lower and last deals at C$1.3334 after dropping
12 pips Wednesday, with both sides of the pair faring relatively badly. The
greenback underperformed all of its G10 peers save the yen on Wednesday, as the
U.S. gov't shutdown continued, while CAD was weighed on by a soft retail sales
print & a slip in oil prices triggered by worries re: global demand.
- BoC Gov Poloz told CNN yesterday that he keeps an eye on Canadian housing
market & added that future BoC MonPol will be data-dependent. Poloz also
mentioned global trade tensions & the impact of low oil prices as factors to
watch.
- Worth noting Canada's ambassador to Beijing McCallum tried to soothe nerves
around the ongoing Huawei CFO Meng's affair by mentioning factors that help her
case, but concluded that the decision belongs to the Canadian judiciary.
- Initial downsite focus falls on yesterday's low of C$1.3305 and a fall through
the level would open up the Jan 21 low of C$1.3252. Conversely, bulls eye the
55-DMA at C$1.3352 before challenging C$1.3370, which represents yesterday's
peak.
