Free AccessUSD Index Moderately Firmer Ahead Of FOMC Minutes, Notable AUD Weakness
- Around half an hour to go until the Fed minutes and the USD index is currently trading with moderate gains on the session, despite the adjustment lower for US yields.
- There has been a partial retracement higher for US equity futures, however, yesterday’s substantial decline has provided a firmer backdrop for the JPY, which outperforms alongside NZD.
- Weakness in the Aussie largely a result of the weaker wage price index data overnight. AUDUSD (-0.45%) is hovering close to six-week lows approaching the minutes and it is worth noting the 0.8% drop for AUDNZD, which has negated much of the February rally.
- EURUSD’s short-term trend remains tilted lower despite the pair being unable to breach last Friday’s lows of 1.0613. Price remains below the 50-day EMA at 1.0677, and the clear break threatens an extension lower towards 1.0484, the Jan 6 low.
