USDCAD Clears 1.35 And Support After Week Of CAD Strength

  • Broad dollar weakness has helped USDCAD clear 1.35 today, most recently with a low of 1.3487.
  • It pushed through 1.3496 (50% retrace of Jul 14 – Nov 1 bull phase), a clearer break potentially opening 1.3417 (Sep 29 low).
  • GoC yields have been weighed heavily by the Tsy rally although still outperform on the day after the stronger than expected labour report.
  • CAD has slipped when looking on crosses today as a function of its US ties, now towards the lower end of G10 FX with only EUR and USD performing worse.
  • It still marks a strong week for the loonie though, gaining 1% in trade-weighted terms.
