USDCAD Expiry Biases Higher With Data Ahead

CANADA
  • USDCAD has slipped lower to sub-1.368, moving back to around the middle of yesterday’s range.
  • Yesterday’s low of 1.3651 took a step closer to key support at 1.3629 (Nov 6 low) but lacked the conviction to continue its push lower.
  • CAD retail sales and US PMIs will no doubt play a role but heavy option expiry for today’s NY cut could bias against material moves lower, with a large $3.4bn grouped between 1.3740-1.3770 although there is also some $1.3bn at 1.3575.
  • CAD lags its high beta peers on the day against the backdrop of the broader USD decline, although still holds gains on the week on a broader trade-weighted basis.
