USDCAD Holds To Yesterday's Gains As CAD Outperforms Antipodeans

CANADA
  • As with much of yesterday after the oil slide-induced surge higher, USDCAD has traded in a narrow range a little over the 1.29 mark, currently just 0.05% higher at 1.2913 but seeing little drag from oil moving higher.
  • Outperformance to Antipodeans continues for a second day in further pullback after AUDCAD had cleared 0.91 for highs since mid-June.
  • Back to USDCAD, yesterday’s rally highlights a possible reversal of the recent technical bearish cycle, opening resistance at 1.2985 (Aug 5 high), whilst to the downside key support is seen at 1.2728 (Aug 11 low) required to reinstate a bearish threat.
  • Recall most recent CFC net spec positioning from last week had CAD net longs at year highs of 14.8% OI compared to NZD net shorts of just -0.6% after being cut from -30% in June and AUD net shorts building to -36%.
