USDCAD Steps Lower On Higher Canadian Rates

CANADA
  • USDCAD steps lower on a recent leg of dollar weakness, -0.3% at 1.2528, as CAD lags only NOK and SEK against the USD today despite softer oil.
  • Growing underperformance of GoCs to Treasuries on the day has pushed front-end yields to parity whilst the long-end Can-US yield differential firms back to a small positive of +5bps.
  • This has been matched by a larger rise in short-term interest rates compared to those in the US.
  • Technicals: Through yesterday’s low of 1.2542, support is next eyed at 1.2499 (Jan 21 low) after which it would open key support of 1.2451 (Jan 19 low).
