USDCAD Struggles To Clear 1.30, CAD Net Longs Fresh Year Highs

CANADA
  • USDCAD has pulled back from session highs after struggling to hold a break north of 1.30 for the second day running, currently -0.06% at 1.2988.
  • The session high of 1.3019 had briefly cleared both Friday’s high of 1.3009 and 1.3012 (3% upper Bollinger band) to open focus at 1.3035 (61.8% retrace of Jul 14 – Aug 11 downleg).
  • CAD should still see some near-term support from front-end Can-US yield differentials at +15.5bps, despite being trimmed slightly, along with CFTC non-commercial net longs extending further last week to 18% OI to fresh highs since Jun’21, although this could be put to the test in the run up to Jackson Hole.
