Uzbekistan Halts Gas Exports Amid High Domestic Demand

Uzbekistan has stopped its natural gas exports to focus on meeting domestic demand, Behzot Narmatov, chairman of Uztransgaz said.

  • The export volumes are diverted to the domestic market.
  • Uzbekistan has already severely curtailed its gas exports in November to 1mcm/d, from 10mcm/d previously.
  • The Energy Ministry had previously forecast 2022 gas export at 3.3bcm, mostly sending to China and other Central Asian markets.
  • The Uzbek government said this week it plans to import more gas and power from neighbouring countries under commercial contracts, not through any alliance or gas union as previously suggested by Russia.
