VIEW: Westpac's Evans Outlines Thoughts On RBA Bond Buying

RBA

Westpac chief economist Bill Evans expects "the RBA's bond buying program to extend to June 2022 and entail additional purchases of A$102 billion (80% AGS/20% semi government) including the A$40 billion the Governor announced following the July Board meeting. This means that, in total, the RBA will have purchased around A$300 billion of bonds under the program. The RBA has committed to purchasing a further A$40 billion out to November 11 once the second A$100 billion tranche is completed in early September. The additional A$60 billion which we expect will follow from November will be made up of 12 weekly purchases of A$3 billion (allowing for one week of suspension over the Christmas period) out to February 10 (total A$36 billion); to be followed by 13 weeks of purchases at A$2 billion out May 12 (total A$26 billion)."
