Volumes of LNG At Sea Fall From Peak

LNG

LNG on tankers at sea has reduced slightly this week from a peak of nearly 3.75m metric tons but remains high at 3.325m metric tons on 16 May. Volumes at sea have increased since March amid strong LNG exports, especially from the US, and low demand and high inventories in Europe and Asia.

  • Despite the low demand, LNG net import flows to Europe have held up with supplies replacing Norwegian flows during the field maintenance period. LNG net import supplies into Europe have averaged around 450mcm/d since 12 May.
  • A total of 50 vessels have already unloaded in NW Europe so far this month with 68% originating from US. Another 34 are currently scheduled before the end of May. A record 97 cargoes arrived in April beating the previous high of 89 arrivals in December.
  • The front month JKM-TTF spread is today at the higher end of the recent range at around parity. The front month JKM price has been trading at a premium to TTF for most of this week although the remaining summer months are still showing TTF at a premium.
