Walla-Netanyahu Comments Suggest US 'Bridging Proposal' Faces Trouble

ISRAEL

Guy Elster at Walla posts on X: "Israel PM Netanyahu told a group of hostages families that Israel will not leave, in any case, Philadelphy and Netzarim axis in Gaza. In other words, he contradicted what he told Blinken, and there is zero chances for a deal"

  • Walla: "During the meeting [Netanyhu] said "I'm not sure there will be a deal", but if there is a deal - the deal will be one that preserves the interests I repeat over and over again, which are the preservation of Israel's strategic assets."
  • The details of the US 'bridging proposal' are not yet public, with the BBC reporting that "major differences are said to remain on issues including Israel’s continuing military presence in Gaza, the rights of displaced Palestinians to move freely from north to south and the number and identity of Palestinian prisoners who’d be released from Israeli jails in exchange for Israeli hostages."
  • The maintenance of the Netzarim corridor [the 'border' between north and south Gaza created by the IDF] would limit the prospect of Palestinians moving freely within Gaza, and as such could run counter to the US' proposal.
