Weakens Again As Coronavirus Restrictions Tightened

After plunging on Tuesday TWD has added to losses today, USD/TWD last up 0.047 at 27.968. Coronavirus remains a concern for officials in Taiwan, there are reports in Liberty Times that Taiwan could further tighten restrictions with the measures proposed including banning indoor gatherings of over 5 people and indoor gatherings of over 10. Taiwan reimposed restrictions yesterday on large gatherings for the next four weeks.

  • The Taiex is under pressure again, down around 2.5% as the technology sector sells off globally, the index is down around 6.6% so far this week.
  • Elsewhere, tensions with China continue to simmer, China's Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Zhu said that the Taiwanese Foreign minister Wu smears China and China will take steps to deal with separatists such as Wu.
