WH Refuses To Specify 'Consequences' Of Russian Chemical Attack

WHITE HOUSE

White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates has refused to specify what Biden's 'severe consequences' would entail if Russia uses chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine. Bates said , however, that Biden's 'meaning was unmistakable'.

  • The White House has so fair avoided delineating a 'red line' Russia could cross which would compel greater US involvement in the war. This is likely due to negative press received by Barack Obama over involvement in Syria.
  • Bates went on to clarify: 'Russia is the only country in this equation with a chemical weapons program which violates international law.'
  • Bates confirmed Biden's announcement earlier that the US is 'revoking Russia's 'most favoured nation' status but declined to specify what levels of tariffs will be leveled upon Russia and the specific sectors that will be targeted.
