Windsor Framework Joint Committee Meets As MEPs Approve New Trade Rules

John Campbell at the BBC: "The UK & EU will hold a meeting of the official-level Windsor Framework Specialised Committee in London later today. On the agenda: Implementation of the Framework, the Joint Consultative Working Group & Engagement with Northern Ireland stakeholders."

  • This meeting comes after the European Parliament International Trade Committee approved a report from Irish MEP Seán Kelly updating EU laws on trade in relation to the Windsor Framework, intended to facilitate trade between Northern Ireland and Great Britain in areas such as medicine and foodstuffs.
  • The agreement on the Windsor Framework has taken much of the heat out of EU-UK tensions, which had already shown signs of cooling under British PM Rishi Sunak. This is not to say that future issues will not arise, though, with the UK's exception for clearing set to expire in 2025 and EU officials stating to MNI earlier this month that any deal between London and Brussels is set to be 'narrow' (see: https://marketnews.com/mni-eu-uk-financial-service...)
