UK: Worth noting there is no confidence vote formally attached to the Queen's
Speech, however if parliament were to vote it down, it would become very tricky
for government to carry on its program.
- The last time this occurred was 1923, when parliament voted down the Queen's
(King's back then) Speech, which resulted in the opposition Labour Party forming
a minority government.
- Convention dictates that in this scenario the PM would step down and a new
government would be formed. In theory the PM could ignore the outcome of the
Queen's Speech being voted down, but that in itself would likely trigger a
confidence vote.
