The recent collapse in WTI prices has driven the Aug22 price through most of the open strikes ahead of option expiry tomorrow.

  • A total of 375mbbls of open Aug22 options positions on CME and ICE are due to expire against the futures close tomorrow. Current aggregate open interest is 236.0k calls and 139.3k puts.
  • The open interest across all WTI options across both exchanges is currently 1.89m calls versus 1.02m puts with the biggest open positions in the Dec22 call options.
  • The closest strikes of interest are in the open put options with over 7k of contracts at 90$/bbl and 95$/bbl.
