Yoon's Approval Rating At 37.5% Ahead Of 1st Anniversary Of Inauguration-Yonhap

SOUTH KOREA

The approval rating of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol stands at 37.5% ahead of the first anniversary of his inauguration this week, Yonhap News Agency reports citing the results of a new opinion poll. Yoon's disapproval rate was much higher at 60%.

  • Respondents were most positive about Yoon's record on defence and diplomacy, while the economy was most often cited by those disapproving of his performance. He was least popular with voters in their 30s and 40s.
  • The ruling People Power Party (PPP) could win 32.3% of the vote should a parliamentary election be held tomorrow. The main opposition Democratic Party (DP) would capture 30.2% of the vote.
  • National security is a major worry for South Korean voters, with nearly 70% expressing concern over the matter amid North Korean missile tests, cross-strait tensions around Taiwan and Russia's war on Ukraine.
