5Y Breakeven Touches New Recent Highs

CANADA
  • The intraday rally in GoCs following a weak open has masked a renewed rise in breakevens today on the back of lower real yields.
  • Touching a high of 2.3564% earlier, the 5Y breakeven cleared recent highs to sit the highest since Nov-2021, partly spurred on by US price pressures in earlier data.
  • The move has come as 5Y real yields fall to -0.67%, the lowest since mid-Jan.
  • In terms of a BOC mark-to-market ahead of next week’s meeting, 5Y nominal yields sit 7bps higher whilst real yields are 17bps lower since the Jan 26 meeting.
