AFP-Russia Eyes 'Final Doc Soon 'On Ukraine Grain Exports

AFP reporting that "Russia eyes 'final document soon' on Ukraine grain exports".

  • Comes a day after Turkey announced a deal reached in talks held by the gov't in Istanbul involving representatives from Russia, Ukraine, and the UN.
  • Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar stated that a deal would be signed off on in a meeting next week. Some of the provisions include joint checks on shipments by Russian and Turkish officials, while Turkey would be tasked with ensuring the safety of Black Sea export channels from Ukraine.
  • UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres stated a “critical step forward” had been engendered in getting grain out of Ukraine, while warning that “more technical work will now be needed to materialise today’s progress”.
  • Neither Ukrainian nor Russian gov'ts gave any official statement on the talks.
