AMLO To Make Rare Visit To Argentina, Brazil, Chile & Colombia In Sep

Wires reporting that Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) has stated that he is planning to visit a number of South American nations in September. Given AMLO's well-publicised reluctance to engage in foreign trips, the visits come as a notable signal of foreign policy intent.

  • All four countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Colombia) are now run by leftist presidents as part of the 'Pink Wave Mk. II' that swept much of Latin America in 2022.
  • AMLO also states that he is not inclined to hand the rotating presidency of the Pacific Alliance (a four-member trade bloc involving Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Peru) to Peru due to the 'spurious government' in Lima.
