Argentina Replaces Russian-Sources Supply from 2023: Platts

LNG

A rescheduled LNG cargo that Argentina’s state-run Enarsa rejected from Gunvor in 2023 is now sailing with Algerian LNG to the Escobar terminal in Buenos Aires, according to Platts, citing sources June 26.

  • The rescheduled cargo onboard the Castillo de Vallalba was originally set for arrival in June 2023 to Bahia Blanca but was rejected citing international sanctions as Enarsa believe it included Russian LNG.
  • The Castillo de Vallalba loaded its current 49.659k mt cargo from Algeria’s Arzew-El-Djedid LNG export facility and is set to arrive in Escobar July 2.
  • This would be the first delivery of Algerian LNG to Argentina since May 2023.
  • The LNG has been purchased at $12.85/MMBtu, according to Enarsa’s website.
  • Enarsa has imported 420k mt of LNG in 2024 to date, down from 1.18m mt during the same period in 2023. 90% of the volumes are of US origin.
