Banxico’s Borja Speaks, Thousand Protest Electoral System Overhaul

  • Thousands marched in Mexico City on Sunday to protest the government’s plan to overhaul the nation’s electoral system. Protesters say the measure, which will soon be voted on in Congress, would be a blow to free elections in Mexico and amount to a broader power grab by President AMLO.
  • USDMXN held touted support around 19.28 (Fibonacci projection) on Friday and the Peso was unable to benefit from that session’s extension of greenback weakness. Next on the downside is 19.1560, the Mar 3 2020 low ahead of 19.0000. Key short-term resistance has been defined at 20.1759, the Oct 19 high. Initial resistance is at 19.6915, the 20-day EMA.
  • Deputy central bank governor Galia Borja will speak at Bloomberg’s Mexico Capital Markets Forum among other notable speakers.
    • There are no major Mexican data releases this week.
