Bearish Threat Remains For USDCAD

  • USDCAD returns to marginally lower on the day at ~1.336 having spiked to a session high of 1.3413 in fallout after the NYSE trading open saw an unusual number of halted stocks before equities recovered.
  • The pair has kept within yesterday’s range, with an early session low of 1.3347 stopping just shy of initial support at yesterday’s low of 1.3342.
  • Ahead of tomorrow’s BoC decision, a bearish threat is seen present with a renewed push lower potentially opening 1.3317 (Nov 24/25 lows) whilst to the upside sits the 20-day EMA at 1.3460.
  • Recall last week’s CFTC positioning put CAD net shorts at -20% of OI, close to recent lows at levels it hasn’t tended to hold for more than a few weeks in the past two years.
