President Biden has told reporters, ahead of a key meeting between Indian officials and representatives of American and Indian tech firms that, "Our countries are taking innovation and cooperation to a new level."

  • Biden: "We need to help seize the moment, help manage the risk to our society, economy."
  • The meeting, part of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit to the White House, is attended by key Biden administration officials including Commerce Secretary Gina Raidmondo, WH Chief of Staff Jeff Zients, NEC Director Lael Brainard, NSC Coordinator for Asia Kurt Campbell, and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, among others.
  • Business representatives include CEOs of Google, OpenAI, Apple, Flex, AMD, Tulco, General Catalyst, FMC, Planet Labs, Microsoft, and Reliance Industries.
  • Modi said at a press conference with Biden yesterday that decisions by Micron, Google, and Applied Materials to invest in India symbolizes a “strong and futuristic” partnership, in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, space, quantum, and telecom.
  • Micron said in a statement that, “phased construction of the new [semiconductor] assembly and test facility in Gujarat is expected to begin in 2023… to become operational in late 2024.”
