Borsa Istanbul Index Eases Off Tuesday’s Record High

  • The Turkish Bank Index has recorded losses of over 1% today, having closely matched its all-time high prior to the US CPI release on Tuesday. The Borsa Istanbul Index is down a more moderate 0.25% on the day but reached a fresh record high yesterday. Ekonomi's industry "experts" note that the 9100 handle is the next resistance level to watch.
  • Turkey wants reassurances from Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte before Ankara will approve his bid to be the next head of NATO, Bloomberg report. According to Bloomberg sources who spoke on condition of anonymity, Turkey wants Rutte to allow Ankara to be included in NATO partnerships with the EU, and to make sure there won’t be defense export restrictions between NATO allies.
  • President Erdogan meets his Egyptian counterpart Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo. The two leaders are scheduled to hold a press conference. There are no economic releases scheduled for today.
