Canada's TMX Pipeline Paves Way for May 18 Cargo

The Canada Energy Regulator (CER) approved the final permits for the Trans Mountain Pipeline extension on Tuesday – opening the way for it to begin operating.

  • Trans Mountain said this month the pipeline would start operating on May 1 but some shippers had been hesitant about permits being offered.
  • The pipeline is now authorized to carry crude from Trans Mountain's Edmonton Terminal in Alberta to its Westridge Marine Terminal in British Columbia, CER said.
  • Line fill is expected to be completed early May and the first tanker set to load in the second half of the month.
  • He first cargo is due for May 18 on an Aframax set for China delivery according to Argus sources.
  • Suncor provisionally booked the Aframax Dubai Angel for a Vancouver-China voyage at $3.5mn lumpsum, equivalent to $6.39/bl for Access Western Blend Argus reports.
