CBS-US Response To Jordan Attack To Hit Iranian Sites In Syria & Iraq

CBS News is reporting that according to its sources, the US has a series of strikes planned in the coming days in response to the drone attack on a Jordanian outpost that killed three US service personnel and injured dozens more over the weekend. The report claims " that plans have been approved for a series of strikes over a number of days against targets — including Iranian personnel and facilities — inside Iraq and Syria."

• Crucially, these strikes are not set to hit Iranian territory. A direct US strike on Iran would have risked Iran launching attacks on US sites in the region or on Israel, which would risk the situation spiralling into a regional conflict.
• There have not been any further attacks on US sites in the region since Iranian-backed Kataib Hezbollah announced it was suspending its military operations against US forces. It remains to be seen whether any US strike could re-start those attacks.
