CDU's Laschet Emerges As Frontrunner To Succeed Merkel

GERMANY

MNI's Political Risk team has published an article examining the latest swings in opinion polling in Germany ahead of the country's federal election, due to take place in late September.

  • After polling poorly in April and May, support for the centre-right Christian Democratic Union and its chancellor candidate Armin Laschet has improved steadily during June and July to the point where Laschet now stands as the clear frontrunner to succeed incumbent Chancellor Angela Merkel after the election.
