China to Drive Global Gas Demand Growth: Shell

Global LNG demand is expected to continue to grow into 2040 while global natural gas demand is expected to peak after 2040, driven by China and other Asian counties according to Shell.

  • Global natural gas demand is estimated to rise by more than 50% by 2040 and is expected to peak after 2040.
  • The global LNG market will continue to grow into 2024, driven by China’s industrial decarbonization and stronger demand from other Asian countries.
  • "China is likely to dominate LNG demand growth this decade as its industry seeks to cut carbon emissions by switching from coal to gas," Executive Vice President for Shell Energy Steve Hill said.
