China’s Gasoline Prices to Fall from October: OilChem

OIL PRODUCTS

China’s gasoline prices are expected to begin falling in October, despite the rally at the beginning of the same month, according to OilChem.

  • Intensive stockpiling of gasoline before China’s National Day holiday will drive prices to their peak, which will then be followed by a fall as traders sit out of the market.
  • OilChem estimates that daily consumption of gasoline in October will be 3% higher than for September at 481k mt/d, although slightly below July and August levels.
  • Gasoline production is projected to fall roughly 2% on the month to 0.5m mt/d in October as state-owned refineries plan to marginally reduce capacity utilisation rates. Rates will fall as demand stays flat at present and independent refineries' production remains unchanged.
  • The gasoline exports are planned at 1.03m mt in October, with no imports planned to date, OilChem said.
